MP backs campaign to count our armed forces in next Census

Bury North MP James Frith has thrown his weight behind a campaign by the Royal British Legion to add in a question about those who have served in our armed forces to the 2021 Census.

After the 2011 Census more information was available about the Jedi population than our armed forces. Despite roughly 1 in 10 of the UK population being members of the armed forces community, there’s very limited information about where they are or what their needs might be.

James said:

“As the former Armed Forces Champion for Bury and now as the MP for our brilliant town with its proud military history as home of the Fusiliers, I am delighted to pledge my support for the ‘Count Them In’ campaign.

“A new question on the Census means we can improve our understanding of the armed forces community and ensure that politicians, charities and service providers fully meet the needs of our serving personnel, veterans and their families.”
