Better Buses for Bury

Many people have written to me expressing anger about the cancellation of the X35 service, which is the only direct bus from Ramsbottom and the north of Bury to Manchester and is well used.

I’ve also received a number of complaints about poor service on other bus routes, particularly the 472 and 474 services.

Every community in Bury deserves regular access to reliable and affordable buses which get you where you need to go and it is unacceptable that private companies are scrapping vital routes or providing very poor services.

I am meeting with the bosses of First Manchester, Transport for Greater Manchester and GM Mayor Andy Burnham in the coming weeks to express my anger at the current situation and my expectation that services must and will improve for the people of Bury, Tottington and Ramsbottom.

Add your support to my campaign for Better Buses for Bury.

Pity weather was dire when you went to east bury for street clean up…but do you know the council suddenly decided to do a clean up the day before. That’s been 9weeks since I phoned to ask for a clean up due to lots of rubbish in street

I have an ongoing complaint about the 474/472 buses refusing to stop near to the swimming baths, currently being dealt with by their Operations Director, their response has been to transfer blame to the residential parking for not stopping there and that falls under infrastructure and dealt with by TfGM. I will me mailing TfGM to see if and when FirstGroup have contacted them to report it. The local depot management team at Bolton are supposedly actively monitoring any feedback from drivers regarding accessibility of the stop and passing on that info to TfGM so I assume this data they are supposedly sending should be available from TfGM under FOI.

First buses are the main operator in Bury and they are totally only in it for the profit and not providing a service. The poor state of the traffic management in Bury makes it impossible for the buses to run on time and the whole system needs a complete overall. Since closing the Bury depot down the buses travel into Bury fron another of other sites, the drivers are not from the area and very few are experienced if it where up to me I would ask Rossendale transport to take over all the services. They run smaller vehicles on quieter routes

Really keen to see fairer pricing for all 11-16 year olds in Bury. So that your weekly bus costs are the same regardless of which street you live on.

Thank you for challenging this issue. I buy a weekly bus ticket which is £15, I feel I’m not getting my money’s worth as buses are either very late or do not turn up at all, I then have to pay out more money for taxis so I’m not late for my autistic sons various appointments.

    Kind regards,

    Miss l m phelan

My wife and I have 2 children attending primary school in Greenmount. We are both just rank and file employees of a government department who commute to Manchester on a daily basis. We work in tandem as we have no relatives in Bury to do the school run.The X35 is therefore absolutely essential .We feel First Buses have robbed us of this valuable service.

It’s unacceptable to pull a much needed and popular service like the X35, with no intention of replacing it. It forces commuters into costlier and considerably longer commutes on already stretched services.

The X35 is a lifeline for many commuters to Manchester and a well used service. Its cancellation means many journeys to work will be doubled.

    Shocking service needs improvement.

The roads can’t cope with a greater volume of traffic and measures must be taken to increase public transport and make it more attractive to use – never mind cancelling important routes.

A decent regular bus service is essential right across Bury. The service on the Carr Clough Estate to Prestwich and Bury is atrocious. Help to restore a regular and punctual service is essential right now!

The 472/474 bus routes are always late, sometimes I’ve been an hour late for college in bury just because of how bad the service is, in addition there are less buses per hour now than there used to. This slows down the service even more and causes a jam packed bus every time. The X35 is how I got to work in Manchester as it was a quick route and I only had to pay for the bus, now it will take me twice as long and will cost twice as much as I’ll need to get the tram to Manchester because the buses there take far too long.

Thank you for help in this matter.
